Man faces forgery charge
A local man who surrendered at the Marshalltown Police Department recently on a forgery charge — a Class D felony — was issued a summons to appear in Marshall County District Court next week, a criminal complaint and affidavit show.
Joseph Wade Bown, 38, purchased $2,100 in merchandise at a local retailer and attempted to pay for items with a forged check, Capt. Brian Batterson of the MPD said. The business called the issuer to verify its authenticity and learned it was fraudulent. Consequently, the business contacted the MPD who questioned Bown and released him pending investigation. He later surrendered.
