Funeral services for Elmer Freese, 76, of Marshalltown, IA, were held Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Pastor Harlan Nuss officiated the funeral.

Groups in attendance were from JBS, Alliant Energy, Melbourne Fire Department, GNB Bank, Iowa River Hospice, Marshalltown Softball League and Carpet Country Softball Team.

Elmer Freese was born on October 1, 1939, in Haverhill, Iowa, the son of Edward and Alvina (Klaas) Freese. He was raised in Haverhill and educated in the Melbourne school district, graduating from Melbourne High School with the Class of 1957. On July 9, 1960, Elmer was united in marriage to the love of his life, Priscilla Meyer at St. Henry’s Catholic Church. After marriage they resided in Melbourne until 1986, and then moved to Marshalltown till the present.

Elmer was a hardworking man who dedicated his working career to farming and Swift and Company and retired in 2008. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, basketball, football, baseball and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Priscilla; children: Cindy Westerman and Marty (Toni) Freese; six grandchildren: Bradly (Tonya) Klosterman, Chelsea (Zach) Van Horn, Danielle Klosterman, Alyssia Klosterman, Rylee Freese, and Seth Freese; great-grandchildren: Emma Schipper, Brayden Van Horn, Brody Van Horn, and one unborn great grandson, Lincoln Klosterman; sister-in-laws, Rosemary Berry, Jolene Freese-Schroeder; nieces and nephews, Randy and Dawn Berry, Jerry, Doug, and Randy Freese and Tana Brand; along with many extended family members and friends.
