Larry Laverle Rush
Larry Laverle Rush died peacefully in Hawkeye Care Center on June 6, 2016, in Marshalltown, Iowa, at the age of 85 with his family at his side.
Larry was born July 14, 1930, in Owasa, Iowa, the son of Alfred and Laura (Ramey) Rush. He was united in marriage to Kathryn Lawson on May 15, 1949, in the Alden United Methodist Church in Alden, Iowa. They proudly celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family in 1999.
He will be fondly remembered for his love for nature and for his enthusiastic storytelling. He loved to go for walks in the timber with his kids and grandkids. Camping with his family was a favorite pastime, especially in his homemade camper in the 1960’s. Larry spent his career working for Iowa Electric for 38 years and retired in 1985.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn, in 2012, and his parents and one sister, Joyce Rush Pingel.
He is survived by his children: Joseph (Lynne), of Victor, Iowa, and David (Victoria), of Urbandale, Iowa; six grandchildren: Jason (Tabatha) Rush, of Davenport, Iowa; Ryan (Amber) Rush, of Boone, Iowa; Melissa (Anthony) Commisso, of Rockton, Illinois; Kala (Job) Yamen, of Des Moines, Iowa; Samantha (John) Sikes, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; and Joseph Rush, of Brandon, Florida; and 10 great grandchildren plus one on the way.
A family memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Iowa River Hospice, Marshalltown, Iowa (www.iowariverhospice.org).
