Mary was born January 27, 1929 to Lyle and Lena (Stevens) Mathis in Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1947, where she played drums in the marching band. After graduation, she married her high school sweetheart, Richard “Dick” Hamblin on October 26, 1947. Together, they raised four sons, and owned and operated a laundry business for over 30 years in Marshalltown. They enjoyed boating and family time at the lake. In later years, they loved to travel and play cards with family and friends. They were loyal supporters of the Bobcats and went to many football and baseball games throughout the years. They were active in the community and church. Her last several years were lived at Glenwood Place where she shared her kind and sweet natured spirit with other residents and staff who referred to her as “Sweet Mary.”

Mary was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents, Lyle and Lena Mathis; sister, Jane Young; and great grandson, Tristan. She is survived by her sons Dick Jr. (Patricia) of Chanhassen, MN, Les (Rhonda) of Wendell, NC, Roger (Lori) of Ames, IA, and Larry (Sue) of Ankeny, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Mary was special and much loved. She will be sorely missed, but her family is thankful that she will no longer suffer. We rejoice that she will be reunited with family and friends previously departed from this world, and in the presence of our Lord and Savior. With one voice we all say “go now in peace.”
