Jean Vircks, 95

Dorothy Jean Benson was born in Wahoo, Nebr., on March 12, 1921. She married Karl Vircks in 1946 in Fremont, Nebr., after his return from U.S. Army service during World War II. The couple lived in Milwaukee, Richland Center, Fond du Lac and Monona, Wisc., and Jean practiced cosmetology to support Karl’s pursuit of his bachelor’s and master’s degrees and his 31-year career within the State of Wisconsin’s Department of Social Service.

Jean and Karl moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, in 1991 after the birth of their grandchild, Laura. In 2013, Jean relocated to Yorba Linda, Calif.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Linda Jean DeRungs (William Thompson), of Louisville, Ky.; son Bruce Vircks, of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter Karen (Theodore) Encinas, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; granddaughter Laura Vircks, of Ames, Iowa, step granddaughter Regan (Jeff) Pyle, of Eagle, Co. and sister Elaine Eberle, of Atlanta, Ga.

Jean was a kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was a devout Christian and active at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Monona, Wisc., and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Jean had a beautiful smile and great love of family, which was always her highest priority in life. She and Karl enjoyed traveling the country and the world. Jean was a talented hostess and organized many gatherings and family events. She left this world in peace and her family feels fortunate she enriched our lives for so many years.

Jean’s funeral and celebration of life will be held at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 3001 South 6th Street, in Marshalltown, IA at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 5 with food and social time to follow at 3 p.m.
