William “Bill” Robinson, 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away, Saturday, October 22, 2016, at his home in Marshalltown, under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at St. Henry Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. Vigil Service, Monday, October 24, 2016, at Anderson Funeral Home, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Bill was born on September 5, 1928, in Marshalltown, the son of Harry and Marvel Robinson. He graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1946 and served two years in the United States Navy. Bill was united in marriage to Audrey Robb on September 3, 1950, in Marshalltown.

Bill attended Marshalltown Community College and obtained a B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College. He furthered his education at Drake University, receiving his M.A. in counseling and guidance, a specialist degree in education and a doctorate in educational administration. Bill taught in the Clarinda, Ottumwa, and Cedar Rapids school districts before returning to Marshalltown in 1958 to teach and coach at Anson Junior High. During his Anson tenure, he initiated and directed a summer driver education program for the Marshalltown school district. Bill served as associate principal at Lenihan Junior High and was appointed principal in 1978. He remained in that capacity until Lenihan was closed after the 1989 school year.

Bill was a charter member of the Marshalltown Men’s Garden Club and Friends of the Public Library and served as president of both organizations. He was active in the Marshalltown Little League baseball program as coach and manager and also was a long time football official for the Iowa High School Athletic Association.

In retirement, Bill and Audrey enjoyed spending their winters on the beach at Orange Beach, AL. He remained an avid gardener and provided thousands of seedling plants over the years to family and friends. As a sports enthusiast, he enjoyed following the St. Louis Cardinals and Iowa Hawkeyes teams. He was passionate about music and often listened to his favorite artists from CD’s he had made.

Along with his beloved wife, Audrey, Bill is survived by sons, Mark(Robin) of Tucson, AZ and Gary (Leigh) of Marshalltown; and grandchildren, Hayley (Kurt) Morey of Marshalltown and Alexander Robinson of Denton, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack and Larry; sister, Mary Wilkey, and a sister in infancy.
