Shirley Borton, 75, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at the Iowa River Hospice Home, with her loving family by her side.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2016, at Faith Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Dave Martin officiating. Public visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Shirley Barker was born on January 24, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Lillian (Scovill) Barker. She was raised and educated in the Marshalltown School District graduating from Marshalltown High School. On March 27, 1959, she was united in marriage to Floyd Borton in State Center, Iowa. From this union four children were born: Carla, Brian, Denise and Melissa.
Shirley was a stay at home Mom for many years but had been employed at, the Soldiers home, Harts Shoe Repair, Pleasant Hill, Tallcorn Towers, Benny’s Cafe, Hilde’s Diner and My’s Place. Shirley was a proud member of Faith Church. She had a passion for Karaoke, bowling, playing bingo and was active in many groups at Faith Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carla (Warren) Schmidt, Brian (Kathleen) Borton, Denise Balot and Melissa (Andy) Eich; grandchildren: Ricky, James, Chandler, Dalton, Caitlynn, Mathew, Adrian, Crystal, Tami, Jacob, Sherry Lynn, Casey, Brittany and Gabriel; 20 great-grandchildren with one on the way; one sister, Sharon Roads.
In death she rejoined the love of her life, husband, Floyd; parents, Raymond and Lillian Barker; brother, Billy Barker and sister, Janet Kelderman.
