Richard J. “Dick” Paxson, 81
Richard J. “Dick” Paxson, 81, of Waterloo, died Sunday, April 9, at Covenant Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 2, 1935, in Marshalltown, son of Oliver and Margaret Springer Paxson. He married Barbara J. Burnham Sept. 1, 1957 and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1953 and from Iowa State Teachers College in 1961 with a bachelor’s degree in business education. He served in the U.S. Marines Corps. Dick was a partner in the Paxson-Harty-Guss Insurance Agency in Waterloo for 36 years. He served as Black Hawk County Magistrate for 20 years, retiring in 2007. Dick was a member and past president of the Waterloo Independent Insurance Agents.
Survived by: his wife; two sons, Joseph (Kelley), Cedar Falls, and Phillip (Debbie), Bellevue; a daughter, Ann (George) Kuhter, Toledo; a sister, Judy (Don) Stalzer, Haverhill; a brother, Dennis, Marshalltown; and six grandchildren: Ben and Alex Paxson, Joe and Sam Kuhter, Amber Dullard and Jennifer Paxson.
Preceded in death by: a daughter, Jennifer and a sister, Betty Shutt.
Memorial services: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at Locke Funeral Home followed with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the funeral home.
