Esther L. Riley, 100, of Marshalltown, IA passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Westbrook Acres, in Gladbrook, IA. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Anderson Funeral Homes, 405 W. Main St., Marshalltown. Esther was born November 11, 1916, to Bert E. and Charlotte E. (Tipton) Gould, in Marshall County, IA. She graduated from Albion High School. Esther was united in marriage to Melvin “Bud” Riley on December 28, 1939, in Albion. He died May 22, 2006. Esther taught private piano lessons in State Center and Melbourne. She and her husband owned and operated Riley’s Food Store, in Melbourne. After retirement, Esther served on the Board of Realtors, in a secretarial position. She was a former member of the Melbourne United Methodist Church and a current member of the First Congregational Church, in Marshalltown. She played the organ for both churches. Esther was very active with the senior citizens and enjoyed playing bridge with them. She was a member of the Elks ladies. Esther was very supportive of the Marshall County conservation efforts.
Esther will be missed by two daughters; Lynne (George) Chardoulias, of Aurora, CO, Peggy Schoer, of Marshalltown, five grandchildren: Meri (Chris) Edel, Julie (Tim) Mull, Jodi (Jeff) Duffy, Chris Chardoulias, Jessie Chardoulias, and five great grandchildren: Alex Edel, Leah Edel, Breanna Wolldridge, Avery Mull and Erin Duffy.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, two brothers, two sisters and a son in law, Bradley Schoer.
