Edna M. Doyle
TOLEDO-Edna M. Doyle, 100, of Toledo, passed away Sunday, July 2, 2017 at Premier Estates of Toledo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017, at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Tama. Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2017 from 5 -7 PM at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home Tama with a vigil service at 7 PM.
Edna was born on July 29, 1916, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Frahm) Hagge. She graduated from Tama High School in 1935 as the valedictorian of her class. Edna taught country school for four years at Sheridan #1 in Poweshiek County. She was united in marriage to Robert Wilson Doyle on May 20, 1939 at St. Patrick’s Rectory in Tama. After her marriage, Edna was an active farmwife and bookkeeper for the family farm. Edna enjoyed crocheting afghans and also quilted. She took care of a large garden as well. Edna was faithful member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama was very involved with the ladies’ circle. She also acted as a caregiver for several family members over the years.
Survivors include three sons, Adrian J. Doyle of Toledo, Michael J. (Joleen) Doyle of Grinnell, and Thomas E. (Mary) Doyle of Toledo; ten grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Robert on December 21, 1995; two sisters; four brothers; and a daughter-in-law, Marlene Doyle.
A memorial fund has been established.
