Maxine Marcella Speas passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Marshalltown, Iowa, with Pastor David Lewis officiating. Public visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa, where family will be present to greet friends. Maxine Marcella Gummert was born on November 17, 1923, on a farm 10 miles south of Marshalltown, Iowa; she was the daughter of Wilbur and Ethel (Snyder) Gummert. Maxine attended school in the Ferguson School District and graduated Valedictorian with the class of 1941. On December 25, 1941, Maxine was united in marriage to Paul Owen Speas in Marshalltown, Iowa; they had lived in Liscomb then moved to Marshalltown and Paul passed away in 2004.

She had worked at Taylors Maidrite for 5 years and the Iowa Veterans Home for 20 years where she won awards for her work in the Print Shop. Maxine was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was in the Choir and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed photography, ceramics, candle making, and loved to travel.

Maxine is survived by her sons, Gary Speas, of Sun City, Arizona and Mark (Carolyn) Speas, of Richmond, Texas; grandsons: Daniel (Juliet) Speas, of Richmond, Texas, Kenneth Speas, of Richmond, Texas and Nathan (Karen) Speas, of Katy, Texas; six great-grandchildren; sister, Doris (Orlyn) Langenbau, of Marshalltown, Iowa and brother, Richard Gummert, of Weldon, California.

In death Maxine rejoins her parents, Wilbur and Ethel; husband, Paul Speas and grandson, Stephen Speas.
