James Willard Osgood, 78
James Willard Osgood, 78, of Marshalltown, passed away late Saturday night, August 12th, at the Iowa Veterans Home where he has resided since August of last year.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, August 17th, at the Central Christian Church, 300 West Main Street, in Marshalltown, in the lower level from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Private interment rites will be on the family lot at the Center School Cemetery. Born on Feb. 13th 1939, at home in rural Marshalltown, IA, he was the son of Lee and Beulah Osgood. He was raised on the family farm, attended country school and graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1958.
He joined the Air Force after graduation and served 4 years overseas in photo mapping. Soon after his discharge he met Ramona Leach, both working at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Ia. They were married May 11, 1963, at The First Christian Church in Bloomfield, Ia. Jim worked the family farm for a few years while employed at Lennox Industries.
He retired from Lennox after 31 years of dedicated service. He enjoyed his family, riding his motorcycle, camping, country/bluegrass music, gardening, John Deere tractors and tinkering (He could fix anything).
He was a member of Central Christian Church of Marshalltown, where he sang in choir, played bells in the bell choir and served on the board and attended many mission trips through the church. Was also a member of the Marshalltown Men’s Chorus.
Jim is survived by his loving wife Ramona of 54 years, daughter Michelle (Alan) Gilmore, of Eldora, son Jeff Osgood, of Marshalltown, daughter Jamie (Travis) Winkowitsch, of Dumont, son Eric (Melissa) Osgood, of Melbourne; 8 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 6 brothers: Richard, John, Melvin, Carl, Howard and Roger Osgood and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, 2 sisters and 2 brothers.
