Earl Steward, 89, of Albion, Iowa, passed away on September 22, 2017, at UnityPoint Health in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Please dress casual in honor of Earl. Military Honors will be provided by the Combined VFW/ American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family. Earl Fredrick Steward was born on November 26, 1927, in Marshalltown, Iowa; he was the son of Walter and Loretta (Brand) Steward. Earl attended school in the Marshalltown School District. Earl served his country honorably in the United States Army. On March 7, 1953, Earl was united in marriage to Doris Elertsen in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Earl had worked at Fred Ward Lumberyard, Marshalltown Police Department for 7 years as a police officer and Marshalltown Community School District for 23 years as an electrician and in maintenance retiring in 1989. Earl had a great love for the western life and loved horses and rodeos. He loved to go to Wyoming in October to help with the cattle drives and also enjoyed camping and woodworking. Earl and Doris enjoyed going to Arizona for the last 12 winters.
Left to cherish Earl’s memory is his bride of 64 years, Doris; nephew, Steve (Midge) Steward and family; and niece Sharon (Linn) Knox and family; sister-in-law, Bonnie Tew and family; and many other cousins and family members.
In death Earl rejoins his parents, Walter and Loretta; in-laws, John and Bertha McIlrath; brothers, Don, James and Billy; sister, Vivian and nephew Ron.
