Raymond W. Steveson, 80

Raymond W. Steveson, 80, of Marshalltown, IA, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017, at the Iowa River Hospice Home, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be Monday, October 30, 2017, at 11:00 a.m., at the Anderson Funeral Homes, 405 W. Main Street, Marshalltown. Visitation will be Monday, October 30, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., until the time of the services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Iowa River Hospice Home or a charity of choice. Ray was born July 21, 1937, in Tama County, Iowa, to Floyd and Dorothy (McCreary) Steveson. He grew up on a farm four miles southeast of Garwin. Ray attended Howard #9 Country School through the sixth grade and then Toledo Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1955. He worked with his father on the farm and at different gas stations in the area. Ray worked in the Montour garage and in construction operating heavy equipment until late 1957. In July 1965, he entered the U.S. Peace Corps and helped build roads in Ethiopia with the Imperial Highway Authority. After touring in Istanbul, Vienna, Athens and the Netherlands, he returned home in July of 1967. He was united in marriage to Deanna (Mathes) Harmon on June 6, 1969, in Marshalltown. Ray began employment with the Iowa Electric Light and Power Company at the Sutherland Station on September 5, 1967, transferring to the operating department in 1968. He was employed there for nearly 39.5 years. After a bout with cancer in 2005, he retired on January 1, 2007. Ray’s cancer returned in 2016. He was involved with the Boy Scouts and Cornflake Cloggers. Ray enjoyed playing guitar, auctions, visiting with everyone he met, BK Breakfast Club, Sunday Breakfast Bunch and Saturday Breakfast Gang.

Raymond will be sadly missed by his wife, Deanna; his son, Raymond Steveson Jr., of Minneapolis, MN; two brothers: Roger (Barb) Steveson, of Tama, IA, and Richard (Colleen) Steveson, of rural Toledo, IA; as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Dorothy and hisgrandparents.
