Wallace Eugene Brindle, 93

Wallace Eugene Brindle, 93, of Conrad, IA, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2017, at Oakview Nursing Home, in Conrad. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2017, at the Alice Church of God, rural Conrad, with Pastor Jim Hartman officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2017, at the Conrad Chapel of the Anderson Funeral Homes with family present to greet friends. Wally Brindle was born February 20, 1924, in Conrad, to Clark and Gladys Brindle. He received his education at the Conrad school, graduating in 1941. Wally served in the Air Force during World War II for two and one-quarter years. During his service time, he married Marlyne Marie Olsen, of Marshalltown, IA, with the marriage taking place while he was stationed at the Sioux Falls, SD, Air Force base on June 24, 1944. After his military service, he farmed with his father for a year before he and his wife moved to a house on his grandfather’s farm. Shortly after his grandfather’s passing, Wally and Marlyne bought the farm that had been in the family since 1910 and Wally worked it until he retired in 1990. He farmed for over 60 years, raising cattle and hogs and growing corn and soybeans. In 2004, they moved to a condo in Conrad. Wallace was very active in the local American Legion Post and was the Post Commander in 1955 and 1967. He was a member of the Lion’s Club. He was a life-long member of the Alice Church of God, serving as a Deacon and an Elder during part of that time. He also served as the Church Treasurer for over 20 years. Wally was a member of Farm Bureau and on the Board of Directors for the Conrad Coop.

Wally is survived by his wife, Marlyne; a son, Jerry (Dee) Brindle, of Marshalltown, IA; a daughter, Julie (Ron) Branan, of Belton, MO; four grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, three step great grandchildren, and one foster great grandchild; sisters Frances (Frank) Patterson, of Grinnell, IA, and Eleanor (Richard) Stromberg, of Guadalajara, Mexico.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Clark and Gladys Brindle, of Conrad; his sister, Marjorie (Darwin) Vint, of Beaman, IA, and his brother, Marvin (Dorothy) Brindle, of Conrad.
