Douglas Mein, 73

Douglas Mein, 73, of Vero Beach, Florida, passed away on November 9, 2017.

Douglas Jasper Mein was born in Marshalltown, Iowa, on December 8, 1943; he was the son of Jasper Mein Jr. and Ada (Osgood) Benway. He attended and graduated from Urbandale High School with the class of 1962. Doug served his country honorably in the United States Air Force for 6 years. On February 23, 1977, Doug was united in marriage to Linda Holbrook in Vero Beach, Florida. He enjoyed traveling, camping, tractor shows, and making people smile, and will be remembered as the Big Teddy Bear for his hugs, smiles and kisses. He loved his coffee and always made a friend wherever he went.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 41 years, Linda; children: Stephen Douglas (Tiffany) Mein, and their six children, of Cave Spring, Georgia; Christine Mein-Parson and her two children, of Hendersonville, North Carolina; Dodi “Sean” Thompson and their two children, of Vero Beach, Florida; and Holly Brown and five children, of Vero Beach, Florida; stepchildren: Eric (Heather) Holbrook and their three boys, of Fellsmere, Florida; and Tracy Holbrook and her four children, of Vero Beach, Florida; 23 great grandchildren; siblings: Linda Blew, of St. Augustine, Florida, Kent (Barb) Mein, of Chaska, Minnesota, Kaylene (Dean) Mills, of Lawton, Oklahoma and Connie (Richard) Kennelley, of Marshalltown, Iowa.

In death Doug rejoins his parents, Jasper and Ada; two brothers, Glen and Gerald Abernathy and brother-in-law, Dennis Johnston.
