Darryl Glen Horsman

Darryl Glen Horsman, of Bonita Springs, FL and St. Paul, MN, passed away unexpectedly on January 10, 2018, as a result of complications following a serious fall.

Darryl was born on December 4, 1948, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, to Keith and Alice (Keerbs) Horsman. After growing up on the Horsman family farm near Mallard, Darryl graduated from Iowa State University where he also met the love of his life, Carol. They were married in Ames, Iowa, on November 28, 1970, and raised three children, Brian (1971), David (1974) and Jennifer (1977).

Darryl started his career working for the Internal Revenue Service in Saint Paul, while also earning an accounting degree from the University of Minnesota and a law degree from William Mitchell College of Law. Darryl loved the law and enjoyed applying his legal expertise in all varieties of applications and circumstances. As he progressed in his career from practicing law to managing financial services, Darryl earned a reputation for being a smart, savvy and motivational leader. His career included a variety of roles at the IRS, Space Center Companies and American Express Financial Services.

Darryl treasured the days he spent at Lake Vermilion, catching up with his family and friends, reading, playing games, boating and “tinkering” around the cabin. As much as he loved summer at the Lake, he also loved escaping the Minnesota winters in favor of warmth and sunsets on the beach with Carol in Florida. Darryl also found great joy and satisfaction in supporting his communities through coaching, mentoring and philanthropy. His generosity, wit and wisdom will be missed by many.

Darryl is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carol (Kurtz) Horsman; children: Brian (Sara) Horsman, David (Andrea) Horsman and Jennifer (Scott) Criqui; 8 adoring grandchildren: Connor (18), Zachary (16), Sydney (13), Natalie (11), Thomas (10), Isabel (8), Maya (7) and Callahan (5); sisters JoAnn (Glen) Christen and Shari Horsman; and many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and other family who Darryl held dear to his heart.

Darryl is preceded in death by his parents, Keith and Alice Horsman, and his brother, Steven Horsman.

A special thanks to the ER team at Fairview Ridges Hospital and the ICU, Neurology, Nephrology and Cardiac teams at Fairview Southdale Hospital for the supportive and comforting care that they provided to Darryl and to his family.
