Sherrill Lewis Delfs, 63

Sherrill Lewis Delfs, of Gladbrook, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, January 10, 2018. A memorial service was held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2018, at Peace United Church of Christ, 201 Johnston St., Gladbrook, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Rev. Robert Doner officiated the service. Burial will take place at a later date.

Sherry was born on May 4, 1954, in Centerville, Iowa, the daughter of Clark and Virginia Wilson. She spent her early years near Independence, MO, Centerville, IA, then moving to California before returning to Iowa. Sherry received an Associate Degree from Indian Hills Community College, then studied and worked in alcohol and drug treatment counseling.

On August 5, 1995, Sherry was united in marriage to Charles Delfs at Union Grove Lake. Sherry worked at Westbrook Acres Nursing home where she enjoyed the time spent with the residents of Independent Living, especially celebrating their birthdays with a special meal. She was a member of Peace United Church of Christ, former board member and junior choir director, Peace Church Guild, HANDS Prayer Shawl Ministry and had been a member of the Second Chance Motorcycle Club. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and was an avid quilter, making several quilts, table runners and wall hangings for many family and friends. Sherry was also very involved in designing and building floats for the Gladbrook Corn Carnival parades.

Survivors include her husband of 22 years, Charles, of Gladbrook; a son Michael Lewis, of Independence, MO; brother Terry Wilson, of Gladbrook, IA, sister Shelly Adkins and nephew James, of Independence, MO; step children: Tim Delfs, of Garwin, IA, Randy (Hannah) Delfs, of Allen, TX, Barb Gray, of Fontanelle, IA, Dave Delfs, of Cokato, MN, Ron (Jen) Delfs, of Clive, IA, and Deb (Jim) Osborn, of Gladbrook, IA; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents and brother Robert Richey Wilson.
