Joan Louise Stevens, 84

Joan Louise Stevens, 84, of Marshalltown, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, at her home at the Embers Retirement Community in Marshalltown.

Funeral services for Joan will be held on Monday, February 12, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Joan DeCoster was born on February 20, 1933, in Victor, Iowa to Louis and Ruth DeCoster. She was raised and educated in the Victor school district. On June 5, 1952, Joan was united in marriage to Robert Stevens in Victor. She had been the manager of food services at the Miller Middle School and most recently, East Marshall. Joan enjoyed playing card games such as cribbage, 500 and uecker as well as playing bingo and was also a fantastic cook and baker. She also enjoyed reading and was active in helping her children show ponies and horses. Joan was a member of the Tallcorn Trail Riders as well as a Brownie Leader. Joan and Bob also enjoyed going to their cabin at Holiday Lake to fish and mushroom hunt. She especially cherished the time with her grandchildren as well as the dinner’s and card games with her siblings.

Joan is survived by her children: Brad Stevens, of Marshalltown, Lee Ann (Kirk) Coughlin, of Ames and Mark (Darcy) Stevens, of Marshalltown. Grandchildren: Jason (Jessie) Stevens, Eric (Kim) Stevens, Nick (Steph) Stevens, Brett (Tara) Goecke, Jessica (Keth) Houseal, David Stevens and Angela (Nick) Patrick. She is also survived by many great grandchildren as well as siblings: Eugene DeCoster, Robert “Bud” DeCoster, Rita Ashmead and Richard DeCoster as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family and friends.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband Bob; parents Louis and Ruth; grandson Nathan Goecke; brother Paul DeCoster and sister in law Doris DeCoster.
