Van Richard McKibben, 86

Van Richard McKibben, 86, passed away Sunday morning, February 11, 2018, at Southridge Specialty Care, Marshalltown, Iowa, following an accident and short bout with cancer.

Van was born May 27, 1931, to Voss and Wilma McKibben and was raised on the farm in the Liscomb area. He graduated from Liscomb High School in 1949 and served our country with the Army in the Korean War. While serving, Van married his high school sweetheart, Barbara Jane Thompson on Flag Day, June 14, 1952. Returning from military service, Van and Barbara began their life of farming near Albion, Iowa. Van was a true and dedicated farmer, winning numerous awards for livestock and crop production, including Outstanding Young Farmer. He excelled in raising Duroc, Hampshire and Black Angus breeding stock. Late in life, he took great pride and amusement in showing off his collection of donkeys to family, friends and visitors.

Van was preceded in death by his parents, Voss and Wilma.

Van is survived by his wife Barbara; his sister, Esther (Norval) Mosher; his two sons, Lynn (Kay) McKibben, of Pekin, IL and Gary (Missy Tierney) McKibben, of Altoona, IA, three grandchildren: Michelle, Tyler and Matthew, and two great-grandchildren, Tiffany and Benji.

No services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
