David H. Schoppe, 59

David H. Schoppe, 59, of Ames passed away on Friday July 6, 2018.

Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday July 11, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center with Pastor Mike Maddick officiating. He will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery at State Center.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday July 10, from 5 -7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center.

David was born in Marshalltown to the parents of Keith and Lola (Needham) Schoppe. David grew up in State Center, graduating from the West Marshall in 1977. He married Martha Norton on November 27, 1993. David completed his Bachelor’s in Business in 2001 and Master’s Degree in Business Leadership in 2004, both from William Penn University.

David was on the State Center fire department for over 20 years. During his time he competed in State Fire Convention, winning many competitions and was known for his unique finish to ensure the best time.

David was an active ballroom dancer for a number of years as a member of the Iowa State Ballroom Dance Club where he met his future wife, Martha. They were members of Red Friars Dance Club (Ames), and the Castle Club (Des Moines) before having children who then became their entertainment. He made it a priority to attend every sporting event, dance recital, and play. Nothing compared to his pride in his family.

David worked from an early age with his father and other family members in earth moving. He owned his own underground construction company, Henry Construction for a number of years, and worked for Martin Marietta Aggregates for over 20 years. After retiring, he joined his wife’s LLC as business manager of Compass Tree Counseling.

David touched many lives in his time on this Earth and will be mourned by countless friends and family.

David is preceded in death by his father Keith on July 23, 2006 and both sets of his grandparents.

Left to cherish David’s memory are his wife Martha Norton, children Justin, Sarah, and Maegan Schoppe of Ames, sister Dolores (Marvin) Morgart of Story City, Mother Lola Schoppe of State Center and extended family of Jorgene Williams, Nicole Olvera and family in Sioux Falls SD.
