Walter Curphy, 94

Walter Curphy, 94, of Le Grand, Iowa passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, October 26, 2018. Military Honors will be provided by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be directed to the family. Walter Orland Curphy was born at home in Montour, Iowa; the son of Wallie and Emma (Shetler) Curphy. He graduated from Montour High School in 1942 where he played on the basketball team that won the state championship. During World War II, Walter was a 1st Sergeant in the Army Air Forces serving as a bombardier in the 29th Bomb Group stationed in Guam. He married the love of his life, Rhoda Patterson in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 10, 1944. They resided in Montour, Iowa, where they owned Public Development Company, Montour Hardware, Phillips 66 Gas Station and Montour Grocery. He was president of the South Tama Community School Board for many years. Walter was president of Tama County Livestock Association, and he developed the Arrowhead Mobile Home Park in Tama, Iowa. He belonged to The United Methodist Church, Shriners and the Masons. He enjoyed fishing, bowling and playing golf. His favorite place to fish was the Bermuda Triangle.

Left to cherish Walter is his brother, Clayton (Sharon) Curphy, of Colorado; his children: Rick (Sybil) Curphy, of Missouri, Connie Hoskins, of Marshalltown, Iowa, Randy (Tami) Curphy, of Grinnell, Iowa and son-in-law, Boyd Bader, of Des Moines, Iowa; grandchildren: Kindra and Ryan Gipple, Cayd and Cindy Bader, Ryan Bader, Teahl Bader, Shawn and Shonya Hoskins, Hope Schultz, Holly Hoskins, Joe and Michelle Curphy, Mindy Curphy, Patrick Benson, Chad and Amy Curphy, Kari and Craig Gosselink, Joel Morrison, Angie and Jan Barton, Maranda Curphy, Chance Curphy, Travis Curphy, Josh and Jill Curphy and Tyler Curphy; as well as 37 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren.

In death Walter will be reunited with his beloved wife Rhoda; his parents Wallie and Emma; his daughter Pam Bader; his great-grandson Zach Gipple; his granddaughter Lyndi Richardson and 8 siblings: Dean Curphy, Dale (Lillian) Curphy, Bill Curphy, Luella (Leonard) Kittel, Evelyn (William) Schuler, Clifford (Vancile) Curphy, Donald Curphy and Mike Curphy.
