Community on board for Project Lead the Way

The Marshalltown community continues to take more ownership in the school district. Never has it been more clear than with the recent Project Lead the Way effort.

Marshalltown High School is starting the program this fall and was looking for support from area companies to help with start-up costs.

They got it.

MHS Principal Aiddy Phomvisay saw how this community works together when the donations started rolling in.

Fisher/Emerson donated $75,000.

Marshall Economic Development Impact Committee is pledging $60,000.

Lennox is down for $30,000.

The Iowa Veterans Home gave $2,500 and Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center is committed with an undetermined figure, but does plan to help.

The community sensed Phomvisay’s enthusiasm for Project Lead the Way and jumped on board. The work the MHS leader has done to build partnerships with the community paid off in a big way.

This money will help bring PLTW to MHS with its focus on engineering and biomedical sciences and bring state-of-the-art equipment to the school’s campus. MHS will be among the leaders in the state in Project Lead the Way.

Kudos to the community leaders who realized the importance of building young minds for the future of our community. The progress made by the Marshalltown Business-Education Alliance is also promising as future leaders are built right here in Marshalltown. Companies are also having a say in training that goes on in the schools, so education can meet the demands of the workforce of tomorrow. Partnerships like this can only strengthen a community.

It appears we are leading the way in more ways than one for the better in Marshalltown.
