Show our veterans that we care
At the Oktemberfest Parade last year, Marshalltown did an outstanding job of “Welcoming Home” our Vietnam veterans. They were overwhelmed with all the flags waving and the handshakes of thanks. So many of them said it was the only thanks they had ever received for serving our country.
We will have a Vietnam veteran entry in the parade again. We are expecting Vietnam veterans from all over Iowa. We are anticipating another great response from our town. We are extending the invitation to participate in the parade entry to all veterans this year. All veterans deserve to be recognized and thanked for their service. Marshalltown does a fantastic job of this.
We are expecting Des Moines TV news stations, a sketch book artist and a photographer to cover our veterans entry. We hope residents will again bring flags to wave or make a sign to hold up for our veterans. Everyone really appreciated your patriotism and it puts our hometown in the spotlight.
There will be an open house following the parade at our VFW post, which is located at 107 E. Meadow Lane. Participating veterans are encouraged to stop in for refreshments and fellowship.
The parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 27. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 641-753-9548. There is a Facebook page, Marshalltown, IA Vietnam Vets Welcome Home. There are photos from last year and we will post updates on the parade there also.
