Dean Fisher is the dignified choice
The character of government, like any organization, takes on the character of its leaders. That is why, “when the righteous thrive, the people rejoice; when the wicked rule, the people groan” (Proverbs 29:2). “When the righteous triumph, there is great elation; but when the wicked rise to power; people go into hiding” (Proverbs 28:12).
John Adams was the first vice president and the second president of the United States. He assisted Thomas Jefferson in drafting the Declaration of Independence and was the primary author of the Massachusetts State Constitution. This highly religious patriot, statesman and civil servant wrote, “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion … Our Constitution is designed only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate for any other.” Why? Because immoral and irreligious people care primarily about themselves. Selfish rulers are a disgrace and a burden to those they govern.
Dean Fisher doesn’t just represent Republicans or Democrats from District 72 in the Iowa House of Representatives. He represents everyone in his district; regardless of age, gender, political affiliation, religion or ethnicity because he is a man of integrity with religious and moral convictions. While others in the State House used the closing of the Iowa Juvenile Home to try and score political points, Dean was working behind the scenes trying to keep it open. Dean graciously treats all people with dignity, even if they are not kind or dignified to him.
While I cannot call Dean my representative because we live in different districts, I am even more privileged to call him my friend. Whenever his name is brought up amongst those involved in politics around the state, people speak of him with pride and respect. He has already shown himself in two terms to be very capable of doing the job. Dean is a moral man who can be trusted to do the right thing because he is not influenced by bribes (Exodus 18:21). I encourage Democrats, Republicans and independents alike to vote for the kind of state representative we can all be proud of, Dean Fisher.
