Support Sodders for Senate
Let me tell you why we are voting for Steve Sodders for State Senate.
April 7, 2016 will be a day we will never forget. Our daughter, who has a passion for running, learned that she wasn’t going to be able to participate at the varsity level in track because she had open enrolled in January of 2016. Thanks to House Rep. Scott Ourth for starting a bill 2-1/2 years prior on behalf of Danyel and Daric Drake’s son, Hunter, our daughter was able to participate in varsity sports without having to sit the 90 days that is required for open enrolled students.
HF 2264, a bill that waives the 90-day varsity sports ineligible ability requirement for students that open enroll due to bullying or harassment, was signed into law by Gov. Branstad. Without the help of Sen. Sodders, this bill would not have been effective until July 1, 2016.
Steve was the one that listened to me when I asked him to have this bill be effective upon enactment. He went to Scott and asked him to amend this bill to include just that. Our daughter was able to participate at the varsity level in track. He understood the challenges she had already over come because of bullying and harassment. He understood our thinking that students just like our daughter shouldn’t have to be penalized again for getting out of a bad situation.
When you go to the polls to vote; I hope you will join us and vote for Steve Sodders!
Thank you again Sen. Steve Sodders and Rep. Scott Ourth!
