Invest in quality education

An article published on Jan. 27 in the Times-Republican, entitled “Pre-K opportunities abound in Marshalltown” highlighted the many great opportunities for preschool within the school district. There is no doubt, that our children deserve the best educational opportunities possible, whether it be through public or private settings.

We fully support the public and private partnerships that were mentioned in the article. However, it is important to know that the opportunities don’t stop at those mentioned in the article.

As representatives of the Iowa River Early Childhood Area Board, we take pride in promoting and

offering opportunities for early childhood opportunities for families through a variety of service providers. Through state funds and our local board, qualified preschools are able to provide tuition scholarships that range from 60-90 percent of the tuition for families that fall under 200 percent poverty level.

The expectations for our programs mirror those mentioned in the article. All of our funded programs have met one or more benchmarks for quality standards, utilize a certified curriculum, and are regularly monitored for performance. Opportunities exists for preschool transportation, child care services, family support services, and more.

As a non-profit early childhood board, we are continually seeking new partnership opportunities. We encourage anyone to reach out to us for information or resources, or consider our grant period which opens March 29.

Research shows that for every $1 invested in early childhood services has a $8 return on investment. Anytime we can offer our youngest citizens the chance to have a quality education, whether in a private or public setting, the brighter future we will all have.
