Share your time and talents
Fall is in the air, along with the fresh start of a new school year. What about a fresh start for yourself, putting your talents to use in new ways? I have found volunteering at the Iowa Veterans Home, or IVH, to be a great outlet for your talents. Staff and residents alike reach out to you with a hearty welcome. You’ll soon be feeling a part of the family.
Most people tend to think of volunteering at IVH as only escorting residents to classes or activities, joining them in crafts, or sharing musical talents. There is so much more. Volunteers may choose to assist in the gift shop or the library. There are multiple one-on-one opportunities where you can visit just as a friend to chat, share stories and pictures, stroll together amongst the cheery garden area in the courtyard area, play cards, or help someone to write a note in a birthday card to their grandchild to name a few. As you get to know your new family, you will find so many new treasures in the relationships you develop, along with discovering that everyone has an amazing story to tell. Give it a try!
You may contact the volunteer coordinator, Aimee Deimerly at 753-4406 at any time. See you there!
