Cath Lab – minutes versus hours

Thanks to those who had the vision 10 years ago of establishing a Cath Lab in Marshalltown to serve not only Marshalltown, but the surrounding communities and people living in rural areas. Also, a special thanks to those who raised nearly $870,000 to make this vision a reality. The combination of this vision and the making of this vision come to reality, saved my life.

May 3, 2013, a blood clot lodged in a 1999 stint implant and the medical staff informed my wife I had minutes not hours to have this clot removed and the stint repaired. According to the medical staff, I would not have survived

the transport out of Marshalltown.

The two EMT ladies on duty that responded to my wife’s 911 call, the nurse in the emergency room that started prepping me for the Cath Lab and the fact that Dr. Choke was in the hospital that Saturday morning all made my survival possible. Thankfully, the state-of-the-art facility was open 24/7.

Generally, the reports on UnityPoint Health have been positive, but I am concerned about our future heart health care.
