Speaking for the Marshalltown community, I would like to express gratitude to the entire staff of the Times-Republican, from publisher to circulation, for the outstanding service they have provided during the past weeks. Early on Friday morning, July 20, I was so surprised and pleased to find a daily T-R at the back door. Photos, stories and updates from the horrific event of the previous afternoon, July 19! (a day that will live in infamy, as FDR once said about Pearl Harbor).

In the greatest tradition of journalism, you have kept us informed about events and given direction to needed care. The spirit of ‘Marshalltown Strong’ can be attributed in large part to your contribution to the cause. Gracias and thank you.
