Barnes, UNC/Duke clash head Saturday's college basketball slate

March 4, 2011 - Travis Hines

There’s five games Saturday that will pit ranked teams against each other, and none are bigger than the Duke/North Carolina grudge match that features everyone’s favorite former Little Cyclone.

Well, everyone’s favorite except for fans of ACC teams not nicknamed ‘Tarheels,’ Creighton fans and anyone who rooted for a different CIML Iowa Conference team while Harrison Barnes and Co. tore through the state to snag a pair of undefeated seasons and two Class 4A state titles for Ames High School.

But I digress.

The Blue Devils and Heels meet Saturday with an ACC title on the line. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. on CBS.

After game-winner against Florida State earlier this week, Barnes has pretty much become the national storyline in college basketball after he’s risen from the depths of his early-season struggles to power the Tarheels back to the NCAA tournament after an absence last year.

In other Top 25 action, No. 2 Kansas and No. 24 Missouri faceoff at 11 a.m. on CBS, No. 19 Villanova and No. 4 Pitt meet at 3 on CBS, No. 16 Connecticut hosts No. 8 Notre Dame at 1 on ESPN and No. 14 Florida heads to take on No. 21 Vanderbilt at 5 p.m. on ESPN.

Former Marshalltown Community College forward Will Clyburn’s Utah Utes face UNLV while former Marshalltown Bobcat Chanse Creekmur and Arizona State host Oregon State.

There’s only one ranked vs. ranked game on Sunday, but it’s a good one with No. 10 Wisconsin heading to Columbus to face top-ranked Ohio State. The Badgers handed the Buckeyes their first loss of the year last month in Madison.
