Fireworks, events at fairgrounds well attended
July 5, 2011 - Andrew Potter
I was able to check out some of the events leading up to the fireworks at the Central Iowa Fairgrounds in Marshalltown Monday and was impressed with what I saw. Hundreds of people checked out the music and dancing performances, took part in the craft fair and enjoyed free games for the children.
Organizer Denny Grabenbauer has been trying to build up events leading up to the fireworks and had weather get in his way last year, but his ideas appeared to work Monday.
Also thanks to the local donations that made the 20-minute fireworks show itself a nice one. The fairgrounds seem like an ideal setting and many brought their campers and tents out to view the show, while others just soaked in the patriotic display from their front yard.
It was a nice way to cap the holiday weekend.
