| | Fun at the fair?August 10, 2011 - Luke StalzerWell, it’s that time of year again. It’s the time of year when all the kids are so anxious to get back to school and millions of people pack the state fairgrounds in hopes of clogging their arteries with anything and everything they can find that’s fried or on a stick. I don’t know who all would agree with me, but don’t you think they have taken it a little too far this year? For one, anyone who would ever think about eating a stick of butter better consult their cardiologist and if you plan on putting it on a stick and frying it, you might want to then consult your local funeral home. It’s just not a good idea. I can’t say that I’ll be eating that butter on a stick this year, but I will be indulging in other fair favorites. How could I not? I am an American, so it’s only right if I eat until I throw up and let my blood glucose levels sky-rocket. In all honesty, my favorite state fair activity is people watching. It’s a blast. You definitely see all types and I would highly recommend it as a family activity when you attend the fair this year and if you’re feeling risky, take pictures ... they last longer. Don’t bother paying those outrageous prices for concert tickets. You need to do it the redneck way and stand outside the grandstands with your drink (or teeth) in hand and listen through the walls. Or if you want, continuously ride the Ferris wheel and you can get a pretty good view of all the action. There are many other fun activities or exhibits to see while you’re at the fair, but the most important thing is to have fun and make it a summer to remember.
