Another series on the favorites list
April 8, 2012 - Pam Rodgers
Well, I finally got around to reading “The Hunger Games,” and the other two books in the series “Catching Fire” and “Mockingjay.” They were hard books to put down and even when I wasn’t reading, I found myself distracted whilst doing other tasks thinking about the events in the book.
They were so good, I have now passed them down to my brother and my sister to bring them into the world of the Hunger Games.
As a reward, I went to see the film that has been out for three weeks now. I really liked the film version. It was well put together, and I thought the characters were cast well. There were several differences from the book but none that really annoyed me.
The books are written from the main character, Katniss Everdeen’s perspective so they had to add other “pick-up” scenes to show what is going on in the world beyond her scope. I thought the parts they added helped to explain the plot line to those who hadn’t read the book first (Trish was one of them). Judging by her reaction, she had no trouble following the plot. She is now nose deep in the first book, trying to catch up with my brother and I (James finished the book in the equivalent of 24 hours).
I am excited to see how the filmmakers tackle the other stories of this series. I’m glad I jumped on the bandwagon of another entertainment phenomenon. Check it out if you have time. Even if you don’t end up liking it as much as I do, it’s worth testing out.
