Ankeny superintendent scandal brings back memories

July 19, 2012 - Andrew Potter
All of this ruckus over the former Ankeny School District superintendent taking a $176,000 severance package brings back memories to me from a few years ago. Oh, where has the time gone since we had a local community college chancellor take several-month “sabbatical” in which he continued to earn his $150,000-plus salary for doing nothing. Then, all of a sudden, he found a new job in Minnesota. Well, imagine that. Looking back, it just kind of irks you if you are a taxpayer. And so does this severance package taken by Ankeny’s former superintendent just as he was accepting a new job in Illinois that was to pay him more than $200,000. Isn’t it kind of sad how so many people are struggling to make ends meet and some people are getting paid indescribable amounts money to NOT work. I guess the rich just get richer.
