New Year's Resolutions for 2013

Normally, I am not a New Year's Resolution guy.
The biggest resolution by most is working out more and eating better or losing weight in general. Most years, I have my weight under control and my eating habits are OK. I even hit the gym 4-5 times per week.
Well, some of that changed in 2012. I had a strong year by most people's standards -- ran my second dam to dam, got my weight under 220 pounds. But by the end of the year, my eating habits stunk and my workouts were coming less frequently. I can put the blame on my new daughter Aubrey but that would be cruel. She did not consume the food I consumed and did not tell me not to workout.
I just felt like my schedule got away from me and I ate what my pregnant wife ate and more and that's not good. I was told it would happen, but I didn't believe anyone. Not me. The guy who works out and run religiously. Well, I guess they were right.
Here are some New Year's Resolutions I have come up with for 2013. I tried to come up with five but only found four good ones. If anyone else has one that would be interesting, I am willing to be challenged into trying to do it. Anyway, here is what I have come up with.
--No Pop in 2013--
This one sounds difficult but there used to be a time in my life when I had one pop per year and that was on Thanksgiving. I don't need pop right? I just want it. I am going to try my best to avoid it in 2013 and so far -- I am it's early -- I am on the right track. I will be drinking more water and Sobe Lifewater to compensate for it.
--Complete my first marathon--
I have had a long-standing goal that I will one day run a marathon. Because of back injuries and foot injuries, I have been held back. This year, I am going to try to make it the year I complete the marathon. My plan is to run in the Drake half-marathon in the spring and then put together an incredible summer of training and complete the Des Moines Marathon in October. I have run in two Dam to Dam races before so it is time to step it up and go for it.
--Lose 20 pounds before the summer--
If I get enough training in for the Drake half-marathon, then this goal or resolution should be met. I put on more weight than I would have liked from August to December and that has to go the other way soon. Running seems to be the only cardio exercise I can do that will drop the weight. So here we go...
--Devote more time to family and friends--
My work schedule can get crazy covering all the area high schools and the college but we have to find more time for family and friends. Our families are going to want to be a part of Aubrey's life as much as possible and our friends also have babies that we are going to want to see and grow up around Aubrey. It is crucial that I make more time for the important people in my life.
