Iowa adds another instate talent
April 7, 2013 - Andy Heintz
The Iowa football team now has three verbal commitments for the 2014 class. And all three are from the state of Iowa.
The latest instate talent to say yes to the Hawkeyes is offensive lineman Lucas LeGrand of Dubuque Senior. This is according to HawkeyeInsider.com's Rob Howe.
The 6-foot-5, 260-pound LeGrand joins fellow offensive lineman Ross Pierschbacher of Cedar Falls and Jay Scheel of Union LaPorte City as Hawkeye verbals.
LeGrand had interest from Iowa State, Kansas State and Northwestern as well as North Dakota State and Northern Colorado. Iowa was the first school to extend an offer and the Dubuque Senior standout jumped at it.
LeGrand played a big part in the team rushing for more than 1,400 yards last year. Dubuque Senior also went 7-3 overall and lost in the opening round of the playoffs.
Pierschbacher is a four-star offensive guard ranked as the No. 1 in the nation at his position. Scheel is a three-star wide receiver ranked No. 54. He could get a look at quarterback though as he played under center for Union this past season after future Iowa Hawkeye Trev Hadachek sustained an injury and was forced to play wideout.
