Another great KC trip
May 15, 2013 - Pam Rodgers
My family took our annual trip to Kansas City to see the New York Yankees take on the Royals. Apart from the weather being a little colder than normal, it was a great trip to the ballpark.
The Yankees won all three games. They are playing with a “B-team” of sorts right now because most of the all-stars are on the disabled list. I really missed seeing Derek Jeter in the line-up, but we still got to see good baseball and a few big names like Robinson Cano, Andy Pettitte and Mariano Rivera.
It is a special year to get to see Rivera in action and we saw him close out two of the three games. He has announced this will be his final season after 18 seasons in the big leagues. He has been a staple in the Yankee bullpen since the Mid 90s and is the greatest closer of all time. Just check his stats if you think I'm exaggerating. It will be very sad when he retires.
But it’s because of his “farewell tour” that I got the best souvenir ever. He autographed my 2009 World Series Championship hat. I brought it to KC hoping to be lucky enough to get his signature on it. It is still a little surreal that it actually happened. It will be a great memory for many years.
