Rick Glenn to fight on NBC-TV Sept. 14
August 19, 2013 - Mike Donahey
The fights keep getting bigger for Marshalltown’s Rick “The Gladiator” Glenn.
A live bout on national television against undefeated Arthur Rofi (6-0) in Atlantic City, N.J. on Sept 14 is next up, according to Glenn's manager Shaun White of Marshalltown.
Details are still being worked out, but White said NBC will telecast the fight from the Revel Resort & Casino. Rofi is from New Jersey and will be the house favorite.
Glenn, who fights at 145 pounds, trains in Milwaukee, is affiliated with the World Series of Fighting, considered just one notch below the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He hopes eventually to compete at UFC, but right now his focus is on training to beat Rofi.
Glenn has aggressively worked his way up the WSOF ranks by winning with a record of 13-2-1 (win-loss-draw). He won the biggest fight of his young career against Brazilian Alexandre “Pulga” Pimentel, 34, by knockout in the third round of a nationally televised bout on NBC-TV on March 23.
Before losing to Glenn, Pimentel was undefeated at 12-0-0. Pimentel was also the reigning national champion of Brazilian Jiujitsu. It is a martial art and combat sport that emphasizes grappling and ground fighting. It was Glenn’s 10th victory in his last 11 fights.
White, and a number of Glenn’s supporters and friends traveled to New Jersey to see the bout. Rumors Sports & Grill of Marshalltown, long-time Glenn sponsor, will be hosting a viewing party fight night, with door prizes, a free keg and more.
“Everyone that comes to Rumours to support Glenn that night will get a ticket to use two weeks later, when he makes a special appearance at Rumors," White said.
Ticket holders will have a chance to win one of his gladiator walkout helmets, a signed WSOF poster, fight gloves and more. Glenn will also be signing autographs to raise money for his sister, Aubry, who is fighting cancer. For more information, visit rickglennmma.com
