October 24, 2013 - Brett Van Waus
While some people are carving pumpkins, out Halloween costume shopping or watching scary movies, I will be locked in on my TV for another reason. Neighbors in my apartment: if you hear me yelling I am okay, I promise and apologize for the loudness, I just get a little excited during the World Series.
“People often claim that Midwesterners are nice. It was kind of the Cardinals to let Boston win at least one game of the World Series,” Karlie Kloss, an American fashion model tweeted Wednesday night after Game 1 of the World Series.
She couldn’t have said it better. I look down as I say this, I admit, it was an ugly, sloppy game, but I do believe in the St. Louis team.
I pray that Carlos Beltran, a legendary key player’s ribs will be healed and better enough to play the rest of the games. Beltran injured them after ramming into the bullpen wall to get David Ortiz’s grand slam in the second inning.
We still have talent. I could go on all day about Michael Wacha, Adam Wainwright, Yadier Molina and the rest of the team, most are which are my age, enormous in size and a much better mix than those bearded Bostonites, but I have to stop myself at some point.
I take a deep breath and embrace myself for the next few days. These days will be full of excitement and my vocal chords will most likely be shot, but it will be worth it. Go Cardinals!
