Why is walking so taboo?
January 21, 2014 - Bennet Goldstein
I walked downtown to a story I had a few blocks away last week and was amazed how I got looked at. On the way back, cars drove by me and I got looks of pity from people as if I had a car break down. Yes, it was 27 degrees out but it was no big deal. I think our culture has somehow thought of walking as something bad. It’s actually good for you people. OK, maybe not that day when it was minus 20 degrees, but most other days are fine for walking a few blocks. A former co-worker of mine once had her car on the fritz. She had to walk to a place and complained about it big time. How about appreciating the fresh air and exercise? I guess those are two things not coveted by people these days.
