Big thaw equals big mess

This week was the big thaw and what did we learn? Some of you guys out there were quite the litterbugs over the winter. I drove on West Lincoln Way earlier this week and was amazed at the amount of trash on the side of the road. It looked like that area just hosted Woodstock. It’s not enough that there’s tons of pooling water everywhere that we also have to see garbage that surfaces after the snow melts? There’s a lesson to be learned here. Just because you toss trash out of your car and into the snow — it doesn’t mean it automatically goes away. The same goes for all you dog owners who let Fido loose on the No. 2s this winter. I spotted several piles of that stuff while walking around downtown Marshalltown Tuesday. I guess we all need a spring cleaning and this recent snow melt solidified that fact.
