Mom’s special day
March 19, 2014 - Pam Rodgers
My mother is awesome.
Most children should be able to say this about their mom, but for me I really mean it. Which is why it’s strange that I have trouble writing a blog about her. Possibly because finding the right words is hard to do.
I don’t want to get too mushy. That’s not the kind of person she is or I am for that matter. Most of the things I want to say to her seem too personal to post to this blog. Plus, I hope I would have said them to her already in person.
Both of my mom and dad have been constants in my life, and I owe them a lot. So at the approach of my mom’s 60th birthday, I knew we would do something special — we all did. Dad planned a nice family celebration at the Ronneburg Restaurant in the Amana Colonies.
Grandma, all of my mom’s siblings and most of their families were able to come. I know I blog about our big family Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings but those are the only times guaranteed to have almost full attendance. Life gets in the way during other events during the year.
The dinner was nice. We all got to catch up, and we even posed for a commemorative photo. No elaborate gathering was necessary. Just good food, good company and a slice of German chocolate pie made mom was happy on her big day. Humorous cards didn’t hurt either.
I want to close by thanking my mother for sharing 27 of her 60 years with me. I owe her everything. I couldn’t have asked for a better role model. Thanks, Mom! Here’s to another 60 years, God willing!
