Benefit for Newton man’s family is Friday
March 25, 2014 - Bennet Goldstein
Those looking for something to do on Friday night can help out a family who has lost someone they loved. A benefit for the family of Pete Hussmann, the former editor of the Newton Daily News, will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. March 28 at the Elks Lodge, 111 E. Second St. South in Newton. There will be food from 5 to 7 p.m. and a silent auction with dozens of items. Hussmann hired me, which brought me to Iowa in 2004 to work at the Newton Daily News. He later resigned from his post and ran the Newton Independent, an online news source. He died at the age of 55 earlier this year after an illness. His work and commitment to journalism was well respected in the Newton community. Money raised from this event will go to help out his family and their medical expenses.
