Fourth of July festivities
July 9, 2014 - Pam Rodgers
This Fourth of July weekend was a good one for me. I got to spend time with family, see some great fireworks and watch some baseball.
My Great-Uncle Bill hosted his own fireworks show again this year at his pond in Montezuma. It has become a tradition to go and enjoy the beautiful July weather and catch up with family. My uncles and cousins do a great job setting off the fireworks. This year’s was one of the best they have ever done.
Then for the rest of the weekend, we headed north to see the Yankees play the Twins. I hadn’t been to Target Field since it opened a few years ago. I saw many games in the old Metrodome. It was nice to check out the Twins’ new home. It’s a beautiful place for baseball.
The other main reason for the second baseball trip this year was to see Derek Jeter in action one last time. I know I mentioned it in my Kansas City blog, but I couldn’t pass up one more opportunity to see him live. It’s still hard to believe he won’t be there next year. He got his 3,400th hit in the last live at bat I will see. It was a great memory to have of the Captain.
It was great weekend to honor America and watch my favorite team play America’s game. God Bless the USA!
