Students shine at Spelling Bee
April 9, 2009 - Bennet Goldstein
Students shine at spelling bee I covered the Lenihan Spelling Bee Tuesday and as always was amazed at words the fifth and sixth grade students were able to rattle off. One of the more impressive ones was “subterfuge,” which was pronounced correctly by Hannah Stone. Not only did I not know how to spell that word, I don’t remember hearing that word in my life. One of my favorite moments was when one girl was asked to spell mariachi and after she spelled it out was heading back to her chair with her head down. She was then surprised the judges did not give her a “ding” signifying she got it wrong. She seemed so surprised that she was still alive in the competition. Congrats to all the spellers who took part in the event.
