Dear ‘Dear John’:
February 18, 2010 - Pam Rodgers
I was very excited when I saw the previews for this movie. I am a big fan of Nicholas Sparks books that have been turned into movies such as The Notebook, A Walk to Remember, Nights of Rodanthe, etc.; all of which I balled the first time I saw them. While there are always sad parts or endings to these movies, I find myself drawn to the love stories told within them. Dear John was no exception, and I found that it wasn’t as sad as the other movies.
It was an excellent play on the traditional use of the term “Dear John” while the meaning was different because the character was actually named John. Letters were sent to and from John, who was in the Army Special Forces and Savanah, a women from Charleston. Channing Tatum and Amanda Seyfried played their parts very well and give a very believable portrayal of two young people who fell in love but were parted quickly because of duty to the U.S. Armed Forces. It was a very intriguing story that is hard not to fall in love with as soon as the couple meets for the first time.
I, of course, loved this movie. It had all the elements, happy parts, tear-jerking parts, touching moments, frustrating moments, twists in the plot line and concluded with what I consider a happy ending.
Yet another must-see for romantic movie lovers.
