A good friend of mine and his wife from Illinois just had a baby recently. It’s amazing how our first conversation since the birth of the child went into comparing labor times, pushing times and the feeling we had the moment we saw our first child.
How did we get to this point?
This is the same friend who was my roommate several years ago. We were both single guys hanging out in our living room trading our best movie quotes, talking about the Boston Red Sox pitching staff and wondering where the smell in the kitchen was coming from.
Now, it’s all about sleeping and feeding times and respecting what women have to go through in child birth.
I guess that means we are officially grown-ups.
Watching on the sidelines during child birth also gave him a new perspective on how strong his wife can be, which was ditto for me.
The best quote he had about seeing his new baby boy was: “He looks like me but he is cute which I didn’t think was possible.”
It’s amazing how births can be so similar. Our wives both had about the same pushing times and yes, both babies were vacuum-sucked out. (Look it up if it’s been awhile since you’ve been in a delivery room, it happens).
Adam and Kara, welcome to parenthood. It’s a bumpy ride but there is so much to enjoy along the journey.
