You haven’t seen a sporting event until you’ve checked out a Special Olympics sporting event. Marshalltown High School will host the Spring Games district event Saturday. I took photos for the T-R at last year’s event and walked away with a smile. The joy these athletes get from competing is contagious. I remember one sprinter last year who was having so much fun getting cheered on I think she tried to run slower just to enjoy the moment longer. You’ll never see athletes have more fun competing anywhere else.
Opening ceremonies are at 9:30 a.m. Saturday (April 10) at the MHS Roundhouse with swimming at 10 a.m. in the MHS pool. Track events will go from noon to 4 p.m. Admission is free.
