Another happy holiday over
November 29, 2010 - Pam Rodgers
The only good part about this time of year is the holiday seasons we get to enjoy with friends and family. Thanksgiving is a great holiday for my family because of the great day we spend at my grandma’s house. It is truly something I look forward to all year long, and helps me forget about the approaching cold weather. This year was no different, although it wasn’t as much of a packed house as usual with other members of the family spending time with the “other” side of the family or other loved ones. We were down to about 27 people as opposed to the 40 that were there last year.
The day was spent catching up with various cousins, this year in particular I spoke to my cousin Mindy about her wedding plans coming up next May. What she has done already and what she will be doing next. The food is always excellent but it always seems to take a backseat to the conversation. Inevitably, the conversation turns to Black Friday shopping and what everybody wants for Christmas. The guys will roll there eyes and make smart alec comments as the women pour over the ads. After desert is consumed about an hour after the noon meal, a card game strikes up and more than one person can be found napping in the living room while the football game is on. Ah, just another year at the Bushong farm house.
Then the craziness of Black Friday begins with my mom, sister and I roaming Marshalltown for the best deals at various stores. We didn't get as big of haul this year as we are all on a budget. This year was a little different. We went to a the matinee of Disney’s Tangled. It was fantastic! Disney has done it again with their princess story. It was great to see them revamp the already beloved fairy tale Rapunzel. Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi did a great job with the voices and singing. The horse Maximus and chameleon Pascal stole the movie with their comedy actions with the people in the movie. Two-thumbs up Disney!!
The weekend capped off on Saturday with the fam enjoying a smaller Thanksgiving meal with Dad’s family. We had a great meal, played some games, then set up the Christmas tree to put us in the spirit. I can’t wait for Christmas!
